Re: LAT: "Putin has surprised everybody" by selecting Dimitri Medvedev
It does not take much to surprise the western press about Russia because they are typically clueless, biased, or willfully ignorant. I watch Russia enough to know that Dimitri Medvedev was one of the top two candidates for the next Russian president back in April 2007. The surprise comes to the west because they have invented a Putin in their minds that does just the opposite of what they want him to do with specific intentions of spiting the west regardless of what is in Russia's best interest. Maybe they have been listening to Kasparov too much.
