Anti-Nuclear Environmentalists attacked in Siberia

A group of Russian nuclear protesters were beaten -- one to death -- in their camp in Siberia (Angarsk) near Lake Baikal. A group of people shouting nationalists slogans attacked the environmental protesters who were protesting a new uranium enrichment facility. Thirteen potential suspects in the beatings and death have been questioned and four people attested. As I have mentioned before, Russia has a problem with nationalist extremists. As the article mentions, this seems to be their first attack against Russians environmental protesters.

If you are interested in reading more details on the attack of the protesters, see Sean's Blog Post on the subject.

Also, this New York Times article sticks to the facts, and does not try to attack the entire government because of a single event -- unlike other New York Times Russia bashing articles. I would not have an issue with the previous article if it would have stayed with the facts like this article on the Russian environmental protesters.

Sean posted a follow up to the attack on the environmentalists in Angarsk.
