Rothschild's Faberge Egg Auction

Recently a Faberge egg made for the Rothschild family as an engagement gift was discovered and will soon be actioned off by Christie's. This egg is exceptionally special since it is only one of three Faberge eggs with a clock and a mechanical figure and is only one of twelve items made of royal quality, but not for the Tsar. It is expected to sell for $12 to $18 million and will be part of a larger collection of Russia antiquities which Christie's will auction in November. With all the oligarchs in London with more money that sense, I am guessing it will sell for more than $18M. Christie's website also has a video with the egg which shows the clock in action.

Quote:
The egg was made for the Rothschild family in 1902 by Peter Carl Faberge and contains a diamond-encrusted cockerel which pops out every hour to flap its wings and nod its head while opening and shutting its beak and crowing.

"The discovery of this masterpiece is the most exciting of my 40-year career," said Anthony Philips, Christie's international director of silver and Russian works of art...

Faberge, a Russian jeweler whose name is synonymous with extravagant craftsmanship, made 50 eggs for the Russian royal family but is only known to have created 12 eggs to similar standards for private clients.
I also noticed that the Faberge family is back in the egg business after re-gaining control of the brand from Unilever.

It is amazing. I was so glad that I noticed the link to the video on Christie's site because that video shows the detail that the pictures just can't -- this is truly a royal work of art.

Re: Rothschild's Faberge Egg Auction

Bonjour,

Beatrix Ephrussi de Rothschild offered this fabulous present to her sister in law.

Beatrix Ephrussi de Rothschild also offered another great present
to the French Academy :
her house of Saint Jean Cap Ferrat - French Riviera - France
with all her collection of work of Arts.

You could join the association of Friends of Museum - Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild to protect this great house and its collection : Ephrussi de Rothschild - Amis - Ephrussi de Rothschild

You could also join us every summer for a great charity gala in the gardens. Very CHIC.

A bientôt parmis nous

Olivier
