What happened to Zhe Zhe [dot] us?

Anyone know what happened to the blog ZheZhe.US? It used to be published at wordpress here: http:// zhezhe.wordpress.com/ and moved to a new location on the first of January 2007. About six weeks ago the posts stopped. Now the entire site is down. See http:// www. zhezhe .us/ . I originally posted this in my off topic section hoping that it was only temporary, but it has been this way for several days now.

Although, ZheZhe mainly reposted news articles, I liked the blog. First it had a great name and it did dig up some interesting items like a CIA report from 1991.

The website currently forwards to this page which says:

Siberian Light also recently noted that there was another death in the Russian journalism world.

Re: What happened to Zhe Zhe [dot] us?

Yeah, I used to quite enjoy digging through ZheZhe as well, as it picked up some interesting stories.

I think the problem though was that Zhe Zhe just reposted news stories, and it's hard to find anything on a blog like that to interact with. There was no published personal opinion to bounce off of, and so I found that, over time, I visited less and less frequently.

Forced to guess - I'd say the author got bored/lonely, and went off to do something more interesting and rewarding with his time.

Re: What happened to Zhe Zhe [dot] us?

I suppose that people quit blogging all the time. For example, I was going through the SL blog roll in order to see what sites you find interesting, and it was surprising the number that just stopped at some random point in time with no "last post" announcement. It is so cheap to keep a host up that I am surprised that ZheZhe just died. Likely many other old blogs are still around only because they are on blogger or wordpress servers -- just like ZheZhe's old site. Discussing this made me think that Lex Libertas had not posted in a while, but I just checked the site and it is that his RSS feed changed. Need to update that....

Personally, I have not grown bored yet, but posting has slowed temporarily since it is budgeting season at work and I am responsible for five Information Systems budgets and 15 capital projects budgets for next year.

An interesting note about keeping a website... someone who studied abroad with me ten years earlier in Mexico happened upon my Russia website and figured out from the pictures that it was me. The person sent me a note and we have occasionally been sending notes back and forth ever since.

Re: What happened to Zhe Zhe [dot] us?

I removed all the links in the original post and all ZheZhe posts in the other Russian blogs section. Google does not like to find 404 links (dead links) so I had to clean up ZheZhe.us to prevent bad links on the site. This is the last post remaining related to ZheZhe.
